References

At least one referee must be your current or most recent employer (or school, college or training provider if you haven't worked). If you've worked or volunteered with children before and aren't doing so now, one referee must be from that role. We contact referees directly and don't accept open references, or references from friends or relatives.

Please give each referee's work email address (e.g. name@nurseryname.co.uk). We can't accept personal emails such as Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, Yahoo or iCloud. If your referee doesn't have a work email, please call us on 01865 576 058 before you apply.

Convictions, DBS and declaration

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. You must disclose all convictions, cautions, warnings, reprimands and bind-overs, including spent ones, unless they are 'protected' (filtered by the DBS). A disclosure does not automatically rule you out. Failure to disclose may result in rejection or dismissal.
Do you have any convictions, cautions, warnings or reprimands to declare, in the UK or abroad?
Do you have any outstanding charges, summons or court proceedings, in the UK or abroad?

Disqualification declaration

Under the Childcare Act 2006 and the Childcare (Disqualification) Regulations 2018, some people are disqualified from working in childcare. Please answer every question honestly. If you're not sure, answer Yes and give details. We'll talk it through with you in confidence.
Are you disqualified from working in childcare, or have you ever been told you are?
Are you on the DBS Children's Barred List, or have you ever been dismissed from a role for harming or putting a child at risk?
Have you ever been refused registration, or had a registration cancelled, for childminding, childcare or a children's home, or been banned from private fostering?
Has a court ever made an order about a child in your care (for example a care or supervision order), or removed or restricted your parental responsibility for a child?

Enhanced DBS

Every role at our nursery, including volunteers and student placements, needs an Enhanced DBS check with Children's Barred List check before you start. If you don't have one, we'll apply for it for you.
Do you hold an Enhanced DBS certificate for the child workforce (with Children's Barred List check)?
Have you lived or worked outside the UK for 3 months or more in the last 5 years? If yes, we may need an overseas criminal record check.
I declare that:
  • All information in this application is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge.
  • I understand that giving false information may lead to my application being rejected or, if appointed, dismissal.
  • I am not disqualified from working in childcare, and there is no reason why I should be considered unsuitable to work with children.
  • My referees are not relatives or friends, and the contact details I have given are their real work details.
  • I consent to the Nursery contacting my referees and carrying out pre-employment checks.
  • I understand I cannot start, including as a volunteer or student, until the Nursery has received a satisfactory Enhanced DBS certificate with Children's Barred List check, references and all other pre-employment checks.
  • I will tell the Nursery immediately, now and if I am appointed, if I am cautioned, charged, convicted, made subject to a court order, or become disqualified, or if anything else changes that could affect my suitability to work with children.
